Question: Where is my factory amp located?

Michael, your factory amp is located behind the glove box. You can use our vehicle selector to find out more about gear thats compatible with your truck.

How many watts is a factory radio?

Standard factory car stereos usually have no more than about 10 watts RMS maximum output power per channel, in spite of what the car dealers advertise. Thats usually not enough power to overcome road noise without sounding shrill.

How do you test a bad amp?

One of the quickest ways is to simply touch the power wire from the amp to the positive post of the battery and the ground wire to the negative battery post. If the power light comes on, it can be ascertained that the amplifier has a good circuit board.

Why is my amp not putting out sound?

If the amp drives that just fine, then you have a problem with your speakers or wiring. If you still dont get any sound, then you could have a faulty amplifier, although youll want to check that it isnt in “subordinate” mode and that you dont have conflicting filters before you condemn the unit.

How do I know what wattage my amp is?

This calculation will tell you how much power the amplifier could output when it is receiving the maximum power from your vehicles electrical system. For example, if an amplifier has a single 40-amp fuse, you would multiply 40 by 14.4 to get 576-watts.
