If youre pregnant in England youll be offered an ultrasound scan at around 10 to 14 weeks of pregnancy. This is called the dating scan. Its used to see how far along in your pregnancy you are and check your babys development.

Do ultrasounds have dates on them?

It is common for each ultrasound throughout pregnancy to predict a different due date. Earlier ultrasounds are more accurate in terms of predicting the due date, so thats why doctors will usually use the dates and measurements from the first ultrasound of the pregnancy as a reference.

Does dating scan change due date?

The accuracy of your screening tests also rely on having the right dates for your baby. If you conceived your baby through in vitro fertilisation (IVF), you will already have been given an accurate due date and the dating scan wont change this.
