Question: What do farriers do with used horseshoes?

Tools such as rasps and nippers are used to cut away material in the hoof that should not be there, keeping the hoof in a health shape and length. A farrier will remove old horseshoes, clean and trim the hooves, measure for new shoes, bend the shoes to fit the hoof and then fit them.

How often should you change horseshoes?

every four to six weeks Shod horses need to be re-shod every four to six weeks irrespective of whether they have worn the shoes out or not. The hooves grow continuously and when shod the hoof cannot wear down as it can (in the correct conditions) with an unshod horse.

Does riding damage a horses back?

It was determined that when riding bareback certain areas on the horses back showed high levels of pressure. Ultimately, they can cause pain and tissue damage to the muscle fibers because of their intensity. It was especially noticeable when the seat bones came down on the horses back.
