Question: Should you date your painting?

Art buyers, critics and the general public will eventually come to recognize you and your art by just viewing your signature. If you dont want to date your art on the front, date it inconspicuously on the back or even on the edge. Obviously, dating your art minimizes any guesswork as to when something was completed.

What should I charge for a painting?

Multiply the paintings width by its length to arrive at the total size, in square inches. Then multiply that number by a set dollar amount thats appropriate for your reputation. I currently use $6 per square inch for oil paintings. Then calculate your cost of canvas and framing, and then double that number.

What should my artist signature be?

Your artists signature should be consistent. If you choose to sign with your first initial and last name, then have that be a harmonious part of your work. Changing the name on your paintings often will make it difficult to identify your work. A first name or initial and last name usually does the trick.
