Hmong marriage in the US is different from marriage back then in Laos. They do still have the negotiating with the Mekong, Pij Las, and brides maid of honor. The grooms side of the family still pays for the bride. But now many young couple does their wedding in a church.

How long is a Hmong wedding?

Are Hmong marriages arranged?

The levirate is practiced among the wives of elder brothers. Marriages can be arranged by parents but are more often the result of the free choice of the spouses. Premarital sex is allowed, and marriages often take place at the first pregnancy.
