How do pilots married to other pilots navigate the unique challenges well enough to make the relationship work? To help answer that question, Air Line Pilot spoke to six married couples―each made up of two ALPA pilots. Added up, these couples have almost a century of experience together.

Can pilot be married?

A lot of times pilots marry other pilots. The odds of coordinating your schedules may not be great, but many airlines have no policies against spouses working the same flights together. If youre not a pilot but have a job that allows you to work remotely, you could even travel with your pilot spouse.

Who are female pilots most likely to marry?

Do pilots age faster?

Chou did the math, and it turns out that frequent fliers actually age the tiniest bit more quickly than those of us with both feet on the ground. Planes travel at high enough altitudes that the weak gravitational field speeds up the tick rate of a clock on board more than the high speeds slow it down.

Each person is different but unlike other women in the workplace, pilots usually begin their maternity leave at least a month before the due date, but on average 8 to 14 weeks before a due date, which means significant lost wages and burden on departments to cover trips.

60% of 282 retired airline pilots included in a recent study died within five years of leaving their jobs, according to an international pilots organization.

Do pilots cheat on their spouses?

The fact is that yes pilots are constantly being placed in situations that could welcome cheating, but the reality is people are disloyal in their relationships regardless of their profession, and not all pilots fall under this general stereotype. Dating or marrying a pilot does however take a certain type of person.

Do pilots have normal lives?

As rosters are only issued month by month, it can be quite difficult to plan long term important events and its very annoying if you have to miss them. So, yes, pilots do have a social life but its not one that the average person would understand.
